What is Craft Conscious?

A place for craft educators and students to share resources, engage with each other, and get inspired. This site will be organized around craft concepts and will center feminist, anti-racist content.

What is craft?

We define “craft” as an approach to making that acknowledges the long history of making outside galleries and museums. This definition includes makers and scholars interested in the five historic mediums (clay, fiber, metal, wood, glass) and folks invested in the history and legacy of craft who are creating work in other mediums (such as performance, social practice, photography, video, etc.).

Who is behind this site?

Anna Helgeson initiated this website with funding from a Craft Futures Grant from the Center for Craft. Anna is an artist, educator, and craft enthusiast invested in rethinking how we do things and why. This site would not be possible with out the contributions of the following people:
